Management Consulting
The term “management consulting” can mean different things to different people and includes a lot of different services depending on the industry, client, and project. The following describes the types of consulting services we provide all types of organizations.
• Strategic assessment and planning. We conduct thorough analyses of an organization’s complete environment and market niche. This process can include an internal assessment of an organization’s mission, vision for the future, strategies, and existing tactics. We also can conduct traditional SWOT analyses, which can look at what is working, what needs to be improved, and recommendations on any new processes to be considered.
• Often, but not always, included in a strategic assessment is the development of a balanced scorecard for specific departments or business units.
• Creation of a competitive intelligence (CI) inventory. A CI inventory typically draws on a wider variety (i.e., both primary and secondary) of information sources, from a wider range of stakeholders (i.e., suppliers, competitors, distributors, substitutes, media, etc.). This process seeks not just to answer existing questions but also to raise new ones that can ultimately guide future strategies and actions. The primary goal is to enable an organization to be more competitive within the environment.
• Product development and management. This service area includes the development of new products and services, including proof of concept studies and recommendations. This area also includes the evaluation of existing products and services, and recommendations for improvements to performance, functionality, marketing, and communications.
• Knowledge management and transfer. We work with clients to help build internal and external communities of practice by developing and managing inventories of knowledge resources. We use a variety of dissemination strategies and processes to leverage these resources across various stakeholders. Important tools used in this service area include: forums, networks, and user groups, and communicative networks and repositories.
• Project management. Whether a project focuses on a service or a product, we work with clients to effectively manage scope, resources, and budget and deliver effective results. We also integrate earned value management practices to maintain efficient project focus and progress.
